A native of British Columbia, Canada, Barry Staples attended the University of British Columbia in 1965-1966 before completing a double honors degree in economics and business from Simon Fraser University in 1970. He then attendedthe Law School of Harvard University where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1972.
Barry Staples began his law practice in Canada, before returning to the United States in 1973, where he practiced law with Fisher & Phillips in Atlanta until 1976, where he focused in labor law.
Thereafter he joined practice with McDonald & Dupree, where he practiced general practice trial law, including divorce. He also successfully defended several high-profile death-penalty criminal defense cases while joining a partnership with Dupree in 1977.
Barry Staples, PC incorporated during the partnership of Dupree and Staples. In 1986, it formed a partnership with John V. Skinner as Skinner & Staples. Staples has continuously practiced law solo since Skinner's death in 1990. Focusing his practice primarily in family law, including divorce, custody, child-support, alimony, adoptions, and modifications. He also practices in criminal defense, civil litigations, business law, bankruptcy, and general practice.
